Iran Sanctions & Trade Compliance

Comprehensive sanctions. Multiple OFAC programs. Almost nothing goes to Iran without a specific license, and those licenses almost never get approved.

The prohibitions cover direct exports, indirect exports through third countries, and transactions that benefit the Iranian government or designated entities. The screening challenge with Iran is beneficial ownership — entities that look non-Iranian on the surface can have Iranian control buried in the ownership structure. OFAC has pursued some of its largest civil penalties on Iran-related violations. "We didn't know" has never worked as a defense in an Iran case, and it's not going to start.
