EU Export Compliance

The European Union maintains its own sanctions lists, dual-use export control regime, and customs framework that operates independently from US rules. OFAC and EU sanctions lists update on different schedules — the average synchronization gap is fourteen days, meaning an entity can be designated by one jurisdiction before the other catches up. US exporters shipping to EU member states must screen against both frameworks separately. EU Regulation 2021/821 governs dual-use goods across nine control categories, and member state authorities issue export licenses independently. VAT applies on imports at rates varying from 17% to 27% depending on the destination country.
