US Imports from China

Goods imported from China in 2025 face the most complex duty structure of any trading partner. Standard MFN rates apply first. Section 301 duties — ranging from 7.5% to 145% depending on the list — stack on top. IEEPA-based reciprocal tariffs add a further layer for many categories. For steel and aluminum inputs, Section 232 applies. The combined effective rate on some electronics and industrial goods exceeds 50% of customs value before MPF and HMF. UFLPA creates an additional compliance obligation: goods with any Xinjiang-origin content in the supply chain are presumptively inadmissible. CBP has significantly increased examination rates on Chinese-origin shipments. We track current duty rates by HTS chapter, active exclusions, UFLPA documentation requirements, and the CBP rulings affecting Chinese-origin content determination.
