Mexico Export Compliance

Mexico is the second-largest US trading partner and a central node in North American manufacturing supply chains. USMCA rules of origin determine whether goods qualify for zero or reduced tariff rates — and misclassifying origin is one of the most common compliance errors in US-Mexico trade. In 2025, Mexico imposed retaliatory tariffs on specific US product categories in response to Section 232 steel and aluminum duties. US exporters must screen Mexican partners, distributors, and manufacturers against OFAC's SDN List and the Consolidated Screening List. Maquiladora operations and foreign trade zones in Mexico create additional compliance considerations around re-export controls and country of origin marking.
