EEI Filing

Electronic Export Information filing through AES — the Automated Export System — is required for most exports of goods valued over $2,500 per Schedule B number, all exports requiring an export license regardless of value, and exports to certain destinations. The EEI must be filed and a valid ITN — Internal Transaction Number — obtained before export. For licensed exports, the license number and exception or license code must be included. Filing after the fact — or not filing at all — is a violation of 15 CFR 30.71 and can result in penalties and loss of export privileges. The most common errors: filing under Schedule B when the HTS number differs, using the wrong export information code, and misreporting the ultimate consignee. We cover EEI requirements by shipment type, AES filing procedures, and the fatal error codes that block ITN issuance.
