India Export Compliance
India is a growing export market for US manufacturers, but trade compliance involving Indian partners requires attention to dual-use licensing, end-use verification, and tariff classification. India is not a member of all multilateral export control regimes, which affects license exception eligibility for controlled technology exports. BIS applies specific license requirements for certain dual-use goods destined for India depending on the end user and end use. India's own Directorate General of Foreign Trade administers import licensing and export controls under the Foreign Trade Policy. US exporters should verify Indian distributor and end-user status against the Consolidated Screening List, with particular attention to defense-related end users who may trigger additional licensing requirements under the EAR.
