Taiwan Trade Compliance

Semiconductors made Taiwan compliance complicated. Geopolitics made it urgent. US controls on advanced chips and manufacturing equipment apply to technology transfers involving Taiwan-based companies, especially those with Chinese ownership or operational connections across the Strait.

BIS expanded license requirements for semiconductor exports that transit or are produced in Taiwan before reaching Chinese end users. The tricky part: a Taiwan-based distributor might look clean on paper but have operational ties that trigger additional scrutiny. Standard screening against the Consolidated Screening List and SDN List applies, and end-use certificates get a harder look when the supply chain passes through both Taiwan and mainland China.
