Copper Tariffs
Copper and copper products enter the US tariff schedule across multiple HTS chapters — unwrought copper, copper wire, tubes, and finished articles each have separate classifications with different duty rates. Section 232 investigations into copper imports are ongoing, and proposed tariffs of 25% on copper imports would significantly affect electronics manufacturers, construction supply chains, and defense contractors. Current MFN rates range from 0% to 3% for most copper forms. We cover HTS classification for copper products, origin issues for copper processed through third countries, and what a Section 232 copper measure would mean for landed cost calculations on high-volume product lines.
